I’m getting back into some projects I’ve left on pause. In particular exploring the eeg brainwave interactions powered by @choosemuse muse S. To the left I have some trails of the waves so you can see their motion, I’ve created a UI that allows for a user to type their name and then press a button to save the recording of their customs generated visual. The full version of this includes a meditative soundtrack created by @magic.atl that begins playing when you hit record. I want to pretty up some of the UI and make it a bit more streamlined and train a model to loosely determine emotional states for more complex and interpretable visual changes. This is my most complete and presentable personal installation I’ve created.

I sometimes never reach the point that my work is polished enough that makes me feel ready to share with the internet. But I am constantly creating so I’m figuring out a way to share my progress in a way that’s simple but matters. So here’s what I’ve been up to and what I’m working on right now. A few TouchDesigner projects made from a @pi.frac.dev and @anyamaryina tutorials, a snap chat AR lens, A vibe coded personal app for my pleasure it’s ok that the UI isn’t sexy yet it’s still really functional. Lastly my non digital project for myself of block printing clothing with Algae Ink. The algae ink is carbon neutral, the clothing is second hand making this a fun and sustainable project that isn’t in the digital realm

Projection mapping, installation and content has been a huge part of my career lately. For my personal projects I’ve using an old epson school projector @bad_chroma got us for our collection. The throw is excellent, the colors and brightness leave something to be desired but it’s been awesome to fill up massive walls! Excited to get some newer ones to our collection and continue renting them out to the local community.

We’re back with another mapping. This is my second time working with this painting I own by @lil_kennyy. The piece is called Paths and it definitely lives up to its name. I enjoy being able to give it even more dimension and life.

Anyhoo, I hear projection mapping is popular nowadays. You can actually get into it fairly easily with free programs and trials. The OGs used Adobe After Effects, which I don’t recommend unless you enjoy making things more difficult than they need to be.

I use MadMapper, but I started with HeavyM since it’s a bit more basic in its UI. MadMapper just has more levels to it, including MadLaser. Whatever your choice, you really don’t need much besides a projector, a computer, and a canvas.

So try it out and have fun!

I’ve never had much luck with the algorithm for organic creative content, but here we go. I’m going to keep making projects in TouchDesigner and projection mapping until a catalyst happens.

This is a simple experiment I ran in my kitchen. The background visual is pre made in TouchDesigner, and the white ball on top is being hand controlled with the #MediaPipe plugin by @blankensmithing and @domscott.art

It was a quick sketch to see how the interaction reads, and I want to expand it into something with a more intentional story.

I really love when a projection mapper creates custom clips specifically for a space, where the physical and digital feel seamlessly connected.

This is my first long term installation project (18months) and it’s been a huge accelerator for my growth and conviction to my craft. Over the last few months, I’ve been working with @dash._.studio and the crew @carla.contreras.art @jesswithoutacompass @ivan23d on a children’s playroom for the @alliancetheatre at the @woodruffartscenter. These are some behind-the-scenes shots from our process.

My role on this project was to create a projection-mapped river that runs on a one-hour day cycle, including two rain moments and an interactive puddle function. I learned a lot throughout this build, and I’ll be sharing more about the process on my Substack, along with a full look at the completed project soon.

Everything goes live tomorrow, and I’m grateful for the lessons and hurdles along the way that helped me grow as a TouchDesigner developer.

This is a special art piece for me. A dear friend of mine Sarah Quickel painted this piece. Sarah always enjoyed my art and my practice and supported me through my first business. I always involved her art in something I was creating because it moved me. Now that she is no longer with us this painting is an artifact a testimony to her presence here with me in this lifetime.

Unwelt: noun; the world as it is experienced by a particular organism

I was excited when I found this word as it is a large part of my philosophy. I’m always thinking of the unique ways we see the world as a species and individual. Also how other species view the world. We allow our thoughts and imagination to be boxed in by our way of perception and forget there’s so many stimuli that can be perceived. Bees see in uv, and know where flower to go to, certain birds can tell gender through uv perception and flowers perceive mainly though aromatic particles to small to see with the naked eye.

This is an experiment into the unwelt of the brown bat which can be found here in Georgia. The visual is a rough imagination of echolocation. So when you make a large enough noise it cause the contour line visual to activate before going back to black. Many more experiments like this are coming

This project is one I made for my 30th birthday. Every photo you see comes from my personal collection of Polaroids taken over the past ten years. I scanned them into my computer and used them in @touchdesigner to create this photo sphere, with the help of @okamirufu.vizualizer. I then made it interactive using the #MediaPipe plugin from @blankensmithing and @domscott.art.

I see this as a way to show and tell memories in a more playful and dynamic way, instead of just swiping through photos on your phone. There are probably even more ways to push this project further and explore more nuanced effects.

Here’s a fun piece made from a @crystaljowart tutorial for @interactiveimmersivehq, inspired by Kandinsky’s style and aesthetic. The tutorial opened up a lot of ideas for how I could translate my own drawing style into TouchDesigner.

I typically draw in two-dimensional symbols and doodles that I haven’t fully explored in three-dimensional space yet, so this became a playful entry point into that process. It gave me new ways to think about form, motion, and composition, and how those elements can carry my visual language across dimensions.

2026 is the year of the stream.

A commitment I am making to myself and my craft is to let the art and designs I create be seen and experienced in motion. Not polished. Not finished. But in progress. Lots of ideas that never cross the finish line will have a chance to be iterated though the witness of others

I have spent a long time in the research phase and, if I am honest, lingered there longer than needed. Moving into iteration and testing has required me to confront something that has been a recurring theme for me: being witnessed. It has been a hurdle, and one I am actively stepping over. Not because it is a new year, but because it is simply time.

Winter feels like the right container for this shift. A season for transformation, for letting old forms decay and compost, so that something more alive can emerge fully in the spring.

What do you see?

I’ve always felt that part of a healthy childhood involves pointing out shapes and stories in the clouds. If you manage to hold on to a bit of that childlike wonder, you might still find yourself doing this as an adult, like I do.

This is part of an ongoing experiment exploring that instinct and other visual perception phenomena using @touchdesigner. A little abstraction is good for the mind. It invites new connections, new interpretations, and new ways of seeing what was already there.

In the midst of applying to residencies and grants, many of which ask me to describe my practice, I’ve been encountering some interesting terms. Learning how to articulate your design thinking is a useful skill, and at times, a difficult one.

Sitting with what I want people to feel through my work, why I create what I create, and the mediums and materials I use, it all felt like an amalgamation of seemingly disconnected interests.

As I spent more time unpacking it, I began to see the golden thread weaving them together into a larger tapestry. My work is sensorial and ecological in nature, drawing from my background as a health scientist and my long standing obsession with visual art. It explores communication through compounds, other species, and our extrasensory perceptual capabilities, alongside the complexity of the human biocomputer and lived experience.

The research questions evolve, but the intent remains the same.

During one of these deep dives, I came across a term that resonated deeply with my practice, and I wanted to share it with you.

Sensory ecology: the study of how organisms perceive, interpret, and respond to their environment through the senses, and how those sensory systems shape behavior, communication, and survival within an ecosystem.. It reminds me of Nero Oxmans Krebs cycle of creativity. Where design, art, engineering and science are not separate disciplines but one, and we move through that cycle to create the dreams in our mind

I had the pleasure of creating an experience that allowed people to interact with the work of @arrogantkei in a new and profound way. For this project, I brought a new toy, a #Playtron MIDI controller by @playtronica, to serve as the physical bridge for interactions inside #TouchDesigner.

Playtron works by turning any conductive object into a button on the controller. As long as it’s clipped to the alligator leads and you’re holding the grounding wire (the black one), touching an object connected to one of the colored clips sends a signal through to the MIDI. The range of materials and creative workflows you can explore with it is huge.

This installation was inspired by a tutorial from @okamirufu.vizualizer, whose visual effects I’ve long admired. For our version, participants touched pieces of metal jewelry designed by Kei, each connected to a corresponding 3D model of the sculpture inside TouchDesigner. When you touch one of the four jewelry pieces, a different visual effect is triggered on the 3D model.

A fun and simple way to invite people to engage with an artwork both physically and digitally.

My first Pepper’s Ghost project! If you’re unfamiliar, it’s an old theatrical technique used to create a pseudo-hologram effect by reflecting an image onto a transparent surface at specific angles.

I originally planned to make a cone version based on a research paper by Xuan Luo, Jason Lawrence, and Steven M. Seitz. A great read if you’re into visual experiments. They break down the optimal angles, shapes, and sizes for achieving the most convincing Pepper’s Ghost effect. Unfortunately, many of their original templates have been lost over time, as the paper was published more than a decade ago, though there might be some newer studies floating around.

The version I built uses four quadrilateral panels forming a pyramid, allowing it to be viewed from all four sides rather than a flat, two-dimensional perspective. The research paper I mentioned explored a cone-based approach, which offers a smoother, more seamless 3D illusion. Their setup used Unity to calibrate and warp the projected image so it appears correctly proportioned in the holographic reflection.

I didn’t have the time or space to attempt the cone version, but the pyramid method was much easier to execute and still really effective. One thing I learned is that if you want to scale it up, you’ll need a much larger display. This particular setup looks best when viewed from slightly below, around six feet high otherwise, you start to see the screen, and it loses just a bit of that illusionary magic.

Armed with creativity, curiosity, an Alienware R4 laptop, and a small portable projector I was lucky to capture these moments from my time at @casacoralluquillo

Located on outside our dwelling was the beach, and there was no limit to fun objects I could project on. What called to me most was this tree that almost looked like it wanted to blow away in the wind.

The ephemeral magic of that night is recalled through these videos where I can smell the sea and feel the coastal breeze on my skin. What a lovely hostel, filled with lovely people and memories.

My most recent mapping is on display in @bardo.atl this is just one aspect to the project, as I have a few ideas to build on too and make it more interactive with guest.

Recovering from a period of burnout, and redefining my why. Keeping what worked and felt good and removing what didn’t. Being a full time freelancer has its perks and it has its downsides. Being a business owner as well. It’s interesting when the thing that gave you life starts to take it away. But nevertheless we preserve. Everything can be experimental if you want it. There’s no right way to live or way you have to live just because you did something once.

I find myself reflecting on all the people I know that firmly know who they are, what they want to be and how to achieve it while I continue to explore man paths, so that maybe one might illuminate itself as the way. But perhaps one way is not my way. I’ll ponder and sit with these reflections further as I rest so that I can build again.

One of my last projects was setting up and running visuals for @soldancemovement when they brought in @toneoflifegongs to Atlanta. I’m happy with how the visuals turned out—definitely some room for improvement. I’m in need of a new short throw that can really do some damage and preserve the quality. Overall, I was just eager to throw some pixels at the wall, and the tones were definitely giving me life that night.

Lately I’ve been exploring collecting new custom content and creating effects in TouchDesigner. It’s a process to dial into my personal style and expand my taste in what I enjoy.

Being around a creative community has been pivotal to my growth as an artist. So it felt beautifully aligned that my trip to NYC for @communitycreativesnyc overlapped with @datlabnyc ‘s very first DatFest.

Spending a full day immersed in all things TouchDesigner was an absolute thrill. For the past year and a half, TouchDesigner has been the nexus of my work—bridging digital visuals and physical installations to craft interactive stories and experiences.

Truthfully, I’d never dedicated a full 12 hours to just exploring it—and while it was new, it felt completely right. I left NYC with new friends, collaborators, and a refreshing wave of inspiration.

Some BTS of me creating my first round of Gaussian splats for @bardo.atl

For this project I’m using Scaniverse by @nianticlabs @8thwall the app is free and these some other fun perks not go into a huge amount of depth with today. There’s plenty of free and paid apps to choose from for your needs.

Gaussian splats are formed by the application taking hundreds of photos while you scan a room and then compiling that to make a point cloud from the data. It’s not always accurate and doesn’t do well with cluttered items like this bar but regardless this indoors my creative flow for someone who’s a beginner at blender and other applications for 3d modeling.

I have some fun game ideas coming in 2025.
